In 1978, the Laguna franchise was sold to businessman Anuar Maccise, who decided to take the Coahuila team to the State of Mexico and rename it "Coyotes". His debut in the First Division occurred on September 10, 1978, in Puebla, losing 2-0 with the local team.

From their first tournaments, Coyotes sought to make spectacular signings and thus, great players wore their yellow and black striped shirt (very similar to Peñarol's): Moisés Figueroa, Alberto Gómez and Héctor Tapia (1978); Néstor Verderi, Javier Sanchez Galindo, Carlos Reinoso, Oswaldo Castro “Pata Bendita” and Pedro Rocha (Uruguayan midfielder four times in the World Cup) (1979); Alberto Aguilar, Mario Carrillo, Daniel Bartolotta and Ricardo “Astroboy” Chavarín (1980); José Luis “Chaplin” Ceballos and Omar Mendiburu (1981), Jesus Ramírez, Raul “Cora” Isiordia and Miguel Ángel Gamboa (1983); Manuel Manzo (1984), Rodolfo Montoya and Jaime Ordiales (1985), Ricardo "Tuca" Ferreti (1986) and Eduardo Bacas and Paco Uribe (1987). It is worth mentioning that among their coaches they had “Superman” himself, Miguel Marín, who led the team from 1984 to 1988. Likewise, the Nezatlan team distinguished itself by giving the opportunity to several players who would later go on to have a long and outstanding career in First Division, such as: Alejandro “Gallo” García, Francisco “Paco” Ramírez, Sergio Bueno (today coach of Gallos Blancos), Rafael Bautista, Martín Yamazaki, José Luis Gonzalez China and José Guadalupe “Profe” Cruz (today coach of Jaguares ). Coyotes Neza's stay in the First Division lasted an exact decade (78-88), during which time they qualified for the league three times: 79-80, 80-81 and 81-82, reaching a semifinal in the latter, which they lost to Atlante (0-1 and 0-0). At the end of the 87-88 season, the franchise was sold to the UAT, allowing the Correcaminos to remain in first, even though they had lost that right on the field.

The franchise was sold in 1988 becoming the UAT Roadrunners.
